Professor Geoffrey Whittington
Professor Geoffrey Whittington is currently [since 2001] a member of the International Accounting Standards Board with responsibility for liaison with the UK standard-setting body (the ASB). He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in England and has a doctorate in Economics from Cambridge University. He has held Chairs of Accounting at the Universities of Edinburgh (1972-5), Bristol (1975-88) and Cambridge (1988-2001) and served as a member of the UK Monopolies and Mergers Commission (1987-96). He has also served on many other public and professional committees and served on the ASB from 1990 to 2001.Honours include the ACCA/BAA Distinguished Academic of the year Award [in its inaugural year], an honorary D.Sc. [Social Sciences] from the University of Edinburgh, and a CBE [for services to the ASB].
In 2003, he was awarded the Founding Societies’ Centenary Award of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
