About the BAA
The British Accounting Association (BAA), which was established in 1947, is a UK organisation which brings together those interested in teaching and research in accounting and finance.
The Association currently has about 780 members, many of whom are employed in UK Higher Educational institutions. Other members include representatives from leading firms of accountants as well as a significant number of private individuals and people based outside the UK .
Please note that the BAA is not a qualifying body for the purposes of practising accounting and finance, and members are not allowed to use or advertise their membership for business purposes.
The benefits of membership include:
free subscription and on-line access to the quarterly refereed journal The British Accounting Review;
a free copy (in the year of publication) of the biennial The British Accounting Review Register - the authoritative reference work on UK accounting and finance departments and the lecturing/research interests and publications of 1,500 academic staff members across over 100 UK institutions;
eligibility to join the eight Special Interest Groups of the BAA (which includes Auditing, Corporate Governance, Education, Financial Accounting and Reporting, Financial Markets and Institutions, Interdisciplinary Perspectives, International and Public Services);
eligibility to join the four Regional Groups of the BAA (which includes Northern, Scottish, South Eastern and South Westrn);
eligibility to attend the conferences, seminars, research workshops, doctoral colloquium and summer schools organised by the BAA's sub-groups;
reduced personal subscription rates for other journals, including Critical Perspectives on Accounting and Accounting Education.
